A Photographic Organization
Sylhet Agricultural University Photographic Society (SAUPS), established in 2016, is a prominent photography organization in Bangladesh. It organizes inter-university competitions, national exhibitions, photo walks, workshops, and other activities. New students join to improve their photography skills and develop leadership and organizational abilities.
Md. Mosharof Hosen joined the Sylhet Agricultural University Photographic Society (SAUPS) in 2017 as a general member, marking the beginning of his journey in photography. Through active involvement in all activities, he gradually enhanced both his photographic and organizational skills. In 2019, recognizing his dedication and leadership, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the organization.
During his tenure, he successfully oversaw regular operations and led the arrangement of major events, including an Intra-University Photography Exhibition and National-level Photography Exhibition & Competition. After completing his term, he continued to support the society as an advisor for several years.
The following is a brief overview of the activities carried out by Md. Mosharof Hosen during his tenure as General Secretary of SAUPS
During the university admission period, the active members of SAUPS visit classrooms to introduce the club and emphasize the importance of volunteering and skill development. They encourage students interested in photography to join the organization.
After the classroom visits, they organize a membership campaign in an open area on campus to attract and register members.
Photo adda are organized every week, where self-taken photos are reviewed and discussed.
Guidance is provided by senior members, helping participants develop their photographic sense and understanding of photography rules. These sessions are enjoyed by everyone.
A photo walk is held at 15-day intervals. Before heading out, we form groups and move together toward the selected location. Upon arrival, we split up and start capturing photographs.
At the end of the event, we return to the university together.
Every year, a photography workshop is organized to help participants improve their skills. The sessions are conducted by experienced photographers invited from outside the university. Senior members of the organization also lead sessions and sometimes university teachers join the program as well.
The workshop usually lasts one to two days.
One of the second largest mega events is the intra-university photography exhibition and competition. An intra-university photography contest is held every year to encourage students’ interest in photography. This event attracts wide participation from students, faculty, staff and university officials, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere. Winners are recognized and awarded prizes at the conclusion of the competition. The university administration provides strong support and collaboration to ensure the event’s success.
Sylhet Agricultural University Photography Society (SAUPS) organizes a large national-level photography exhibition and competition almost every year. In the absence of the president, the 3rd national photography exhibition & competition-2019 was organized by Md. Mosharof Hosen as a General Secretary. Teachers and students of different universities and different photographers from all over the country participated in the competition by sending their best photos.
More than 4000 photos were submitted and 100 photos were selected by renowned photographers of the country, which were later exhibited. The program was inaugurated by the VC of Sylhet Agricultural University. He also unveiled the cover of the magazine published by the organization.
Apart from the people of Sylhet, photographers from different parts of the country came to the exhibition. More than 10,000 people came to visit the exhibition for two days. On the last day, the VC of Sylhet Agricultural University gave the prizes to the winners. The program ended by giving the prize money of around 40 thousand BDT to the winners. Various sponsors and Sylhet Agricultural University authorities cooperated to make the event a success.
